Restore Hang

Windows 7

12 Gigs of memory

I have recently upgraded to System Suite 11.  When I am installing new programs SS asks if I want to set a restore point.  I say yes.  It starts to create the restore point and then freezes up the entire system.

What's up with this?

Thanks

Hello Durnford,

As a test please try creating a Windows Restore point via Windows. Is Windows able to create a restore point with out error?

Hi Mike. I did the Windows restore and it worked. Then I tried it with SS 11 and it still hung up the system. It stops at 8 of 55 items.

ALSO

I did a Registry clean and compact yesterday and now one of my main programs, Lightroom, is AWOL. I see the program when I go to the Control Panel "Programs" list but it does not appear on the Start, All Programs list.

I've tried to do a restore but it doesn't work.

I did copy the Register before doing the mainmaintenance I can't find any way to restore the Register. None of the buttons on the Restore page are active.

It's a hell of a mess.

Hello Durnford,

If you go to the Recovery tab you will see a tab for Un Do it. Use this tool to restore any changes you made. See if this restores the program in question.

I would suggest you do a Registry Defrag, one the defrag is complete see if you can then create the restore point.

Mike, I did go to the Recovery Tab where the Un Do tool resides but none of the options are live. It tells me "no un do logs are available."

This is is a mystery since, as I said above, I made sure to backup the Registry before messing with it.

I would like to restore the Registry to see if that undoes some of the damage -- but without the Un Do tool working I can't.

Is there some other way to do it?

Hello Durnford,

If there are no items to restore then you will have to use a Restore point to try and restore the changes. You can also try using Windows system restore for this.
