Anti Virus in the future? - The existing scanners are out of date, old fashion.

Lately, I am reading some articles about the current anti virus software development..

Since there are over 50.000 new virus threats avery day. All Anti virus develeopers are basically running behind the virus development.. The scan time is dramatically increasing and slowing down the operating systems. The virus database is increasing rapidly every hour.

There must be a new way of finding and eliminating the virus and similar attacks from outside. That means new and innovative anti virus development is needed..

What do you think?

Educate users and excessively paranoid security software will no longer be needed. I'd venture to say that 95% of all threats come from computer users blindly running attached executables or clicking phishing links. That being said, these users usually (there are exceptions, obviously) won't notice their system is running any slower because of said security software.

Pierre VEBER says:

I agree with Benoît; to some extent, the risk is considerably lower when user is educated about security. Running an up-to-date browser, not blindly trust download sites and e-mail attachments, not forwarding chain emails and hoaxes (see this excellent french-language site), not following phishing links, etc... is your main protection. It can sound like common sense but unfortunately the majority of users doesn't care about that.

Well... all your comments are related to the existing technology.. You are both correct for today´s tech. and the user behaviour but this not what I would like to find out.

I am interested in the next generation, innovation in this market.

I know that some companies such as SMYC and Kaspersky are working on the next generation of the Anti Virus software already.

What is the next generattion protection software..

How will it work..?

Will it be better and quicker?

I think we need to find an expert from Kaspersky or SMYC here at Softcity.

Cedric Voisin says:

Antivirus does not simply relies on a database.
Heuristics are used also, and many other way to identify a virus existing but it will take a full article to explain all this.

Anyway Kaspersky for example use a sandbox, which means that the first time you install their software, they add a signature to executable you trust.

Any threat that target those well known executable are instantly detected (it changes the file checksum) and removed, the trusted version is put back in place.
