"Title" of pages using WebEasy

When you are developing a web site on WebEasy you can put a name to each page.  I am sure most of you know this but this is very important!

The very first thing the Search Engine Spider sees on your website is the "Title".  This means that the first place it indexes that page is by the "Title" you gave it.  If you did not give it a name, then that page will be indexed as Page whatever!  If your website is about dog's, chances are you will not see many visitors.

For those that do not know, you can set the "Title" of your pages under Modify > Page Title.  A box will popup and on one side you will see the pages listed and underneath that a box to name them one at a time.  Highlight a page number and then give it a name.

Be thoughtfull in the name you pick, you want to be indexed correctly.  If you are a Reseller for one of the big guys, you might name your hosting plan page something like "XYZ Website Hosting Plans, Linex servers available."   Don't treat it like a "Keyword" entry by naming every keyword you can think of.  This title will show up at the top of your webpage and will be the first thing your visitors see, you want it to be legible for them!

I've been using WebEasy for almost 3 years and I just learned where this was.  Hence, I put this in a comment so others can mention neat things they have discovered and we can keep them in one place.

Hello,

I am using web easy as well but when I add in the title names then upload to my host it still only display the page number in the title bar....Example: http:yourwebsite.com/name/_016.htm.  Even though I named the pages individually.

Do you know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

I am assuming you are using WebEasy8 and not an earlier version, I was not able to have my page titles "view Source" differently than the index page's title.

1. Did you re-publish the site after re-naming your pages?  If not, the changes will not take affect on the website.

2. Did you change the title name by using the "Modify" tool at the top of the canvas?  Changing the text in the navigation buttons only changes the buttons.

I hope this was of help.

There is a place near the bottom of the inspector window just under "Title" that is "File Name". Double click there and it brings up another box. Add your title there in the format of "this_is_my_title.html". Be sure to place the underline between words and end with either .htm or .html. It will then show up in the title bar.

Thanks for the feed back ... I know about the suggestion that JK made but it was not the answer. I tried a number of things and found the "File Name" box but may not have placed the title correctly so will try it again.

Stay tuned .....

made the change, saved it and then built it then uploaded it IE came back with the 404 error message again .... during the upload of the revised page it ask to delete the original Index, html and the secdary file that goes with it ... deleted them ...

When back to "File Name" and changed back to "index.html" and saved, built, uploaded and the site is back but of course not named as I would like.

Most web sites seem to insist on the name "index.html" but I know there has to be a way to call the first page by a disctiptive name. Especially as I had it way back when I first built this site.

Getting old sucks!!

There are at least two place to access the page title box, that I know of, and one additional place to view the page title, other than at the top of the page.

1 - As JB stated: the menu "Modify" and "Title."

2 -  You can also pop-up that title box by clicking on "Page" in the left window pane and then "Title" in the top pane window (just below the menu bar).

3 - In the Inspector click on the "Properties" tab, scroll down to "Web Page" and your title is displayed in the "Title" box.

It seems to me that there is another place to change the page title, but since I use that left window pane to make most changes and Inspector to check over my pages, I cannot remember where it might be located.

I do use the menus to access a wide variety of other functions, but in the process of building any give web page, I am not even sure where to LOOK for another place to make that box pop-up.

(@RT - I have CRS too.)

Since I have learnt this the hard way I want to add that ONLY use "Modify/Menu" and "Page/Title" Menu and NOT the "Inspector"!

When using "Modify/Menu" and "Page/Title" you will be asked if you want all links related to be changed = simple and saves a lots of time.

When using "Inspector" you will not be asked and will end up having to change ALL related links manually = could be a lots of work!

Just so you know.

Eileen Brown says:

HI Nils.

Right on the money with that.

Inasmuch as I use a different technique when building websites, (I develop each page of a website in it's own .ALB.) I sometimes forget how everyone else does this, according to how Web Easy  approaches the activity of handling links for multiple pages.

I have a web page with directions for all the ways to approach this almost complete - I'll post the link here today. :)
