Hello Spencer,

I looked at a few pages and do not see any black squares or splotches. Can you please provide me with an exact page that you are encountering this on? Also, which web browser(s) and versions of those web browsers are you viewing the page in?

Hello Spencer,

We will need an archive backup so that we can take a look at the project itself and see what exactly is happening.

Can you please visit our support page and submit an e-mail trouble ticket so that we can have you e-mail us the archive backup.

This is going a week with my website corrupted by the new version of WebEasy (ver. 9) and still no solution in sight.  I'm afraid to use WE to make changes to my other website for fear that it will corrupt that site too.

Spencer,

If you wish to speak to someone over the phone, you would need to contact our telephone support team. That telephone number is listed at the bottom of the e-mails as well as the WebEasy Support Page.

Art,

I would just like to get this problem fixed so my website isn't corrupted.  I assume/hope you can duplicate the problem w/ the files I sent to you.  So if you can give me step by step directions, please do so.  If not, I will call.

Regards, Spencer

 Art,

That doesn't work.  The black spots come & go w/ refresh and doubl-clicking.  When I scroll the menu on the left the black spots disappear and re-appear.  I've been on hold 15 minutes waiting for someone to pick up - and listening to recording telling me how much my patience is appreciated.

 Regards, Spencer

 Hi Spencer,

Thank you for contacting Avanquest Technical Support.

If any black spots do not correct when refreshing, double clicking onto the object should remove them.

If you have any further questions, please write back to us or you can call Avanquest Technical Support at (716) 616-4901.

 Thank you,

Arthur

After waiting over 30 minutes on hold, I gave up.  I understood from your msg. this morning this issue would (finally) be resolved by the close of business today.  Apparently that isn't going to happen.  Please tell me how to install the earlier version of the Webeasy software, hopefully get rid of the black spots that have corrupted my website, and get my money back for the version 9 "upgrade".

Arthur K. says:

Spencer,

I was able to remove all the black spots from the backup file that you had sent me. What exactly happens when you double click on an object which contains the black spot.

To install your previous version, simply uninstall the current version then run the installer file for the previous version.

The black spots come right back when I remove them from another page.

I tried the uninstall & reinstall you mentioned but can't find the installer for the previous version.  The link I have to install the software installs the new version, not the previous one.

Will the previous version of the software read the website file (ALB) which has now been read and modified by the new version?

Telephone tech support is absolutely worthless.  It may sound good to talk about phone support but no one answers the phone.

Thanks Art.  I just got off a 1 hr. call (30 min. wait time) w/ Al.   Apparently there's something incompatible between ver. 9 & the video adapter (Mobile Intel 945GM) on this laptop.  Will try another computer.

I installed ver. 9 on a new Win 7 computer and copied the website files from the old computer to the new one.  When I opened the website on the new computer the same black squares appeared.  I could remove them by pressing Refresh but they re-appeared when I moved down to the next page.

I then uninstalled ver. 9 on the old computer and installed ver. 8.  When I open the website there are no black squares.  I publisheded the website to the Internet and there are no black squares.

Spencer,

I was reviewing your backup file once again and have a question.
Did you copy/paste objects from a Microsoft related software onto the pages?

Spencer Roane says:

Art,

When we add more homes to the page containing the thumbnails (where most of the black spots appeared), we usually copy the labels for each home from another home already posted to that page - then we make changes to the new homes descriptive text.  Some of those text blocks we now copy could have originally been done by copying & pasting from MS Word.

Same for other text blocks on the website.  We sometimes edit text in Word then paste into WE.

Arthur K. says:

Spencer,

I was reviewing the coding and noticed several references referencing Microsoft, which is why I was asking. Whenever I insert a new Rich Text object onto the page, I would not encounter the problem some of the other objects were.

I think the consistent copy/pasting and editing an existing Rich Text object may be causing the issue. I am tempted to try copy/pasting all of the text into notepad, then pasting them back into new Rich Text objects. This will clear up any previous formatting code that could still be associated with that Rich Text.

I generally suggest using plain text over rich text, unless where rich text is required.

Spencer Roane says:

You may be on to something Art.  I still have version 9 running on my new Win 7 machine.  When I hit the Refresh button the black squares disappear but come right back when I click on the page below or above.  However, when I delete the block of text where the black square was and hit Refresh then click on other pages, the black spots re-appear on the first page EXCEPT where the deleted text was.  Possibly, as you said, the text is corrupted and when I delete it the black squares no longer appear.

As mentioned previously, I didn't have this problem w/ any previous version of WE (ver. 7 or 8) - so something happened in ver. 9 to cause this problem.

Arthur K. says:

Spencer,

Rich Text is a Microsoft Component. Internet Explorer 9 updated this component and caused Web Easy 8 to handle Rich Text incorrectly in version 8. With version 9, we had to modify how WebEasy worked with Rich Text to comply with the changes to that component updated by IE9. This is why it did not behave the same way with your version 8.

Thanks Art.  I have no alternative but to switch from WebEasy to Wordpress.  I truly appreciate your attempt to answer tech support issues but dealing w/ a site-corrupting issue like these black spots & splotches this way (submit a question one day and get a response the next day), or by calling tech support and having no one answer the phone after being on hold 30+minutes, doesn't work for me.
