I was having a discussion today at lunch with my colleagues and we started discussing electricity usage and power consumption. I mentioned to them about WOL ( Wake On Lan ) solutions that exist for turning on a computer remotely, but was wondering if anyone had tried this over the interwebs.
i've used this on a LAN, but have never tried through the internet. I think it's a great idea/solution for those people who sometimes need access to something that is on their home computer, but it doesn't need to be online all the time.
found this link that may be worth a look http://www.ezlan.net/WOL.html
anyone have any thoughts?

OK, so this sounds easy. However, what security issues would it bring with it? I have to wonder... all anyone would need is your IP, right?

Sure, they could turn it on, but if you have a sensible setup ( router with built in firewall ) disabling vulnerable windows services etc. With those items security shouldn't be so bad
