Duplicate articles on Softcity

These days, I have seen quite a lot of articles with same subject from different posters on Softcity.

I think there should be a tool for helping Softcity's participant to make sure the subject they want to expose is not already raised, thus to avoid duplicate content.

On my side, before starting an article, I search for some keywords related to my topic.

Any ideas or good tip to avoid this bad experience?

:) couldnt resist, sorry.

I agree, a few very similar articles have appeared from time-to-time, I guess we all read the same news and websites. Maybe SoftCity could start using a keyword 'cloud', which would make things easier to categorise fully and therefore more easily searched for?

But is also interesting to see the same topics written and discussed with other point of view or with different information.

Good ideas here!

@Miguel: I guees it is up to the writter to decide if his topic is different from the one already added in Softcity.

@Tim: Nice to see you back here.

@Everyone I have seen this (and possibly been guilty of it) as well. A lot of this comes from not taking a minute to search your topic in SoftCity, some of it just has to do with overlapping news sources as Tim said and the fact that there is a lot of content that comes out from us.

I agree with Miguel that it is intriguing to offer differing points of view and if two articles are on the same subject, they should link to one another.

Two writers, both with competing points of view that are NOT plagiarizing from one another or anyone else sounds like originality to me.  While Tag Clouds would give us an idea of hot topics on the site, I wonder if it might deter this from continuing.  I wouldn't call it a bad thing.

As long as the front page isn't the same story over and over, I think it's ok from time to time.

Interesting conversation here. I have an opinion on @Nacim's report. As an author is writing the title and the body of his article/conversation/question, we could send the text of the contribution to our search engine, in the background and suggest in real time potential existing contributions. This would allow you to discover similar topics and choose wether you want to continue writing your own contribution or want to complete one already started. Do you think it would help?
