Discussion display: Sort by "popluarity" not working?

Hey folks,

just an observation: sorry to bother you with this.

The "sort by poplarity" function may not work:

http://cafe.softcity.com/internet-networking/discussions?sort=popular

At least the order does not follow any logic and shows discussions with more votes below those with less votes.

Am I correct?

best, cheers, Alex

PS: concerning the logo: I read Patrick's "how to get readers on my articles" ;)

Great logo! I also have hard times understanding the logic of popularity sorting. If you guys at SoftCity could do something, it would be really nice.

@Patrick thanks for the answer to Alex and Pierre. I know you are working on it and it's not easy when the traffic on the site is changing but we'll find the right balance with more and more data!

@Alex who's she? :)

Patrick Salomon says:

Popularity is a complex algorithm, and, for sure, it needs some improvement.

The current logic is recent votes count more than older ones. That's why you can have less votes (but more recent) for the first article.

Votes on comments follow the same logic.

There is also other factors, for example, a recent article is more popular than an older one.

We are always improving the algorithm.

Hi Tom

You can create a new Question. To do that, move you mouse over the "create contribution", on the top bar. You can select "Ask a question".

Be sure, once done, to select the right software product (Webeasy).

That's it
