Exporting a cookbook

I cannot export a cookbook that I have created.  How do I do this?  I did as the instruction book said, but it does not work.

Robby E. says:

Shari,

Thank you for that information. Now, what precisely is the problem with exporting the your custom cookbook? How is it failing to export?

Regarding printing all your recipes at once, the program does not have an option to do that. The only way that I can think of you doing something like this would be to create a Meal, drag all of your recipes to that Meal and then print that Meal. When you print a Meal, it will print all of the recipes that are in the Meal.

You want to know what precisely is the problem with exporting my custom cookbook and how is ti failing to export?  When I hit export, it asks me if I'm sure I want to export it and I hit YES and nothing else happens.  That is the problem I am having, nothing happens.

Shari,

Are you running this on a PC or a Mac? I am running this on a PC and do not receive any prompt asking for confirmation on exporting the cookbook.

Robby E. says:

Shari,

Thank you for confirming that for me. How precisely are you going about the export option? Could you provide me step-by-step directions on what you are doing within the program? I would like to follow these steps to see if I can get the same confirmation message you are receiving. Everything I have tried so far does not provide any sort of confirmation message when exporting. Perhaps I am over-looking something.

Open Food Network program.  Go to left hand pane where cookbooks and meals are displayed. High light cookbooks.  In the cookbook library highlight the cookbook to export. On tool bar that contains the words cookbook library, click on export in the right hand corner.

A box comes up that says: "Are you sure you want to export the "(name of the cookbook I want to export)" cookbook?  Yes or no.  I hit yes and nothing happens.

This also occurs if I go to "file" and hit export.

Robby E. says:

Shari,

Thank you for providing those directions. We were going about it different ways. When I try to export my cookbook that way, I do receive the prompt. However, when I click "Yes", I get a message stating my cookbook is locked and does not allow me to export it.

Please try the following:

1) Launch Food Network Recipe Manager
2) On the Recipe Browser window, expand the Cookbooks category on the left-hand side, if not already expanded
3) On the same left-hand side, click on the cookbook name that you want to export so it is now highlighted. You should now see the recipes for that cookbook appear in the right-hand pane.
4) Go to File - Export Cookbook

At this point, when I perform these steps, I do not receive any confirmation prompt. Instead, I get a "Save the Recipes" window prompting for a location to save the exported cookbook. From there, I just select the location and click the Save button.

Shari,

It sounds like there may be a problem with Windows. That should have opened a generic Windows Save dialog box. It failing to do so seems to indicate a problem with Windows.

Just for my clarification, when you went to step 4, the option to "Export Cookbook" was not grayed out, correct? The "Export Recipes" and "Export Meal Recipes" just before it should have been grayed out. However, the "Export Cookbook" should have been in black. Can you confirm for me that you are seeing that option in black when you repeat the test?

Shari,

As I mentioned previously, there may be an issue with Windows. However, it is hard to tell on an issue like this. Do you remember if the program ever exported the cookbooks for you in the past? Or was this the first time you tried to export the cookbook and noticed the problem?

I have tried exporting the cookbook ever since I finished it, and it just will not export.  I have Windows 7. The program system requirements are Windows XP, Vista or 7.

Robby E. says:

Shari,

I think the issue is with a problem with Windows or one of its components, not compatibility. I have seen Food Network Recipe Manager run & export successfully on Windows 7. So, I know it is not an issue with an incompatible operating system.

I would like to see if the same problem appears with any of the other Save dialog boxes. Please try the following:

1) Launch Food Network Recipe Manager
2) Open your cookbook
3) Select one of the recipes on the right-hand pane
4) Go to File - Export Recipe

Do you get the "Save the Recipe" dialog box when you do this? Or does nothing happen like when you try to export the cookbook?

I have no problem in exporting a recipe, but still cannot export the cookbook.

Even after doing the update it still will not export the cookbook.

Robby E. says:

Shari,

Thank you for testing that for me. That seems rather strange that the Save dialog box would appear for the Export Recipes and not for the Export Cookbook. Could you tell me how many recipes are in that cookbook in the Cookbook Library view? Perhaps there is some sort of size limit that I have not seen before.

Also, as an additional test, please try the following:

1) Add a new cookbook
2) Add 2 recipes to that new cookbook
3) Select that new cookbook
4) Go to File - Export Cookbook

Does the Save dialog box appear when you try to export this newly created cookbook?

Shari Sandwith says:

I have 326 recipes in the cookbook that I am trying to export.

I did the additional test as stated.  It would not do anything, if I went to File - Export cookbook.

But if I went to the right hand side of the page and clicked Export it came up with the same message "Are you sure you want too export cookbook?", when I clicked "yes" now this message came up:

"Food Network Recipe Manager core executable has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Shari,

Thank you for testing that for me.

At this point, I am not sure if the problem is coming from Windows, the program itself, or possibly a file that stores the cookbook information. What I would suggest that we do at this point is a manual backup and uninstall/reinstall. Please try the following:

Note: Make sure you have your installation disc for FNRM before starting this process. Also, please read through all steps before starting. If you have any questions about them, please let me know.

1) Close Food Network Recipe Manager (FNRM) if open
2) Browse to the program's installation folder, which should be here:

C:\Programs\Nova Development\Food Network Recipe Manager

3) Copy both the Cookbooks and Recipe Files folders to a safe location, such as your Desktop. These folders store your cookbooks and recipes. So, it is important that you copy both of these to a safe location before proceeding.
4) Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall FNRM
5) After the program has been uninstalled, restart the computer
6) After restarting, reinstall FNRM from the installation disc
7) After it has been reinstalled, launch FNRM
8) If prompted to install an update, install it. This should close FNRM and start an installer for the update.
9) Launch FNRM.
10) Go to File - Check for Updates
11) Install any updates that are found.
12) Repeat steps 9-11 until it informs you that you have the most current version of FNRM installed.
13) Close FNRM
14) Go back to the program's installation folder:

C:\Programs\Nova Development\Food Network Recipe Manager

15) Delete the Cookbooks and Recipe Files folders found in the installation folder
16) Copy the Cookbooks and Recipe Files folders that were stored in a safe place back to the program's installation folder.
17) Launch FNRM and confirm that your cookbooks and recipes are now found in the program.
18) Test exporting your cookbook once more
