Scrapbook Factory Deluxe 5.0 export problem

I am having difficulty saving files for export in Scrapbook Factory Deluxe 5.0.  I have created various scrapbook pages and want to export them as Jpeg files in order to have them professionally printed.  I know I can only save one page at a time.  When I export each page as a jpeg file I run into two problems.

First...My 12x12 pages will export and save except that it saves the entire page and background minus about a 1 inch strip on the bottom and also on the right sides.  It is set as a 12x12 page when I save it, but for whatever reason, no matter what I do, I can't get it to save the entire page.  I have tried with multiple different pages and it is always the same issue - it saves as a 12x12 except the strips on the bottom and sides are blank (not showing what was on the page in those areas).

Second...After I save 3 or 4 files as above, I can go through the process to continue saving additional pages except they won't actually save.  It acts the same and I assume they are saving until I go to access the files from another program and realize they didn't actually save at all.  This may have something to do with memory????

I would appreciate the help.

Mel,

Regarding exporting your 12x12 projects, I am not seeing this when I try to export a 12x12 project to .JPG file format. As a test, please try the following with one of the pre-designed projects:

1) Launch Scrapbook Factory 5
2) Select the "Choose a Template" option
3) Expand the Scrapbooks category
4) Select the Traditional 12x12 category
5) Select the project titled "Christmas"
6) Click the Finish button
7) Click on the Main Button - Export - Export As Image
8) On the Image Size window, make sure it has these options:

Width = 12
Height = 12
Resolution = 96
Maintain Aspect Ratio is checked
Save As = JPG

9) Click the Save button
10) On the Save As window, specify a location and save the image file
11) Check the saved image file to see if it is still missing the bottom and side.

Please let me know what happens when you perform the above test.

Regarding your second issue, this does appear to be an issue with memory. What you may want to try to do is close Scrapbook Factory between each project that you create. If you are on Windows 7, this should help clear out the memory the program is taking and free it up to be used again.

When I tested it as you suggested, I had no problem.  It saved the complete page fine.  When I saved previously, I had been right clicking on the mouse to utilize the "Export Selection as Image" vs "Export as Image" through the Main Button.  When I tried to save the test Christmas image by accessing the save option via right clicking on the mouse, it seemed to save it fine as well.

I opened up one of my project files to test again using the Main Button, but everything froze up.  When I reopened the program and tried to access my file then it came up with the message that an error had occurred and the file was corrupted.  This had also happened to me in a different project file.  Thus I lost many hours of work unless there is some way of recovering the contents of the files.

Unfortunately due to the other issue of not being able to save more than 3 individual page files before it quit actually saving them, I will have to start from the beginning.  And, those files that I was able to save have the missing inch on the side and bottom.

Needless to say this is very frustrating.  I don't have a lot of time, but was excited to get going on a couple of projects, yet I keep running into problems.  Now I am not sure I want to continue using the program.

As for the memory issue, what can be done to "free up" enough to run better.  We thought based on the system requirements that this program should be fine to run on our computer.

Mel,

If the test works with one of the pre-designed projects, then we know that the issue is not inherent with your program's installation. If that was the case, we would have seen the same problem in the export. Rather, this issue seems to be related to something you are doing with your scrapbook projects. This is not to say that you are necessarily doing something wrong. It is just that something that you added, modified, removed, etc. may be causing the problem.

What you may want to try to do is periodic exports while working with your project to see when those blank areas appear. For example, you may find that after adding a certain image the blank areas appear on export. If you can pinpoint what is causing the issue, this is something that can be reported to the developers to see if it can be corrected.

With your saving issue, I made an assumption that I am now questioning. When you say that it is not saving, are you saying that the files that you are trying to save are never created? Or are the files created, but nothing appears in them when you open them?

I've encountered the same problem with my project.  Actually, I've seen many of the insufficient memory issues that have been reported here.  In fact, this software is so buggy, I've developed the habit of saving every page created, then immediately copying the saved file to a backup folder because if the software ever locks up and gives me the "insufficient memory" error, IT WILL corrupt you file and you lose all that you worked on, unless of course you saved a copy in a backup folder.

As for this problem with exporting,  I have a 9 page, double sided project created as a 9" high by 11.5" wide template.  This is slightly larger than normal letter size (landscape orientation) so that when I send this to a commercial printer, they will cut to 8.5" x 11" size for binding to a book.  My problem is exactly as the original poster stated when I attempt to export a page as an image.  I use the main menu, "export as image" button, maintain size as 9x11.5, dpi as 300, and save as a TIFF image.  This creates an image with about a 1/4" black space on the right and bottom sides of the image.  I've since changed my page set up in my project to 9.5x12 and then tried to export image as 9x11.5 and it still shows the black space except it's about 3/4" wide on the right and bottom sides now.  It's as if the program is limiting the export size to standard letter size only (8.5x11).  Which, I attempted to export to image again as an 8.5x11 and the black spaces were not present.

I could type a 10 page list of problems I've encountered with this software but will refrain for now.  I'm interested in a solution to this export to image problem today...

Harold,

Thank you for providing those specific steps. I was able to reproduce your issue as described. This appears to be related to the resolution that you are choosing when exporting your project. There seems to be some sort of "tipping" point when the resolution is set higher than 295 DPI. At 295 DPI, everything exports correctly. At 296, a thin black bar appears along the two edges. It grows wider the higher the DPI is set.

I will pass on this issue to the software developers. In the meantime, the best that I can suggest is try exporting your projects with a resolution set no higher than 295 DPI.

Thanks Robby for the quick reply and temporary solution.  As always, you are most helpful.  While you are not always able to provide a solution to the problem, you always seem to give it your best effort.  I, and I'm sure many other Scrapebook Factory users, appreciate your support and interface to the development team at Nova.

Harold

PS - I was able to duplicate your fix and it worked.  Thanks again!
