Hughey,

Which version of Photo Explosion are you using?  Also, are you running this on a 32bit or 64bit installation of Windows Vista?

Hughey,

Thank you for providing the requested information.

I have not seen the problem you are experiencing.  I am wondering if there maybe another program running in the background that is conflicting with the software.  Please try the following to see if it resolves the issue:

1) Close all program
2) Click on the Start button
3) Type "msconfig" without the quotes in the Search box
4) Double-click the MSCONFIG item that appears on the search list
5) On the General tab of the System Configuration window, select the Diagnostic Startup item
6) Click on the OK button
7) At the prompt, select the Restart Now option
8) After the computer restarts, test the program to see if the problem still occurs

Please let us know if the problem persists after doing the above.  You can re-enable your startup items by performing the following steps:

1) Repeat steps 1-4 from above
2) On the General tab of the System Configuration window, select the Normal Startup option
3) Click the OK button
4) At the prompt, select the Restart Now option

After the computer restarts, your startup items will have been re-enabled.

I tried the above steps same results. I question if the package loaded correctly. The inst.book I received with the package said I could go to the help button to check for updates or  the preferences under file to set up for updates.  Neither of these options allow for updates. Also, I do not have an Icon for Photo Explosion only PE Album and the bonus packages.  Do you have a telphone # that I can call for assistance?

It still does not work correctly.  How did it get a resolved flag? Any suggestions?

I uninstalled all of Photo explosion, deleted all associated files, reinstalled just the basic PE 4.0 package....same result. I went to msconfig, selected diagnostic  startup, restarted system, same results.  Checked for updates on PE 4.0, nothing. If I don't get it resolved on 1/6/11, I will unstall, box it up and send it for a refund. I have spent over 8 hours trying to use this package.  It's not worth it...Let me know if you have any additional solutions....

Hughey,

I am not sure where you are seeing a "resolved flag".  Perhaps it is something that happened when you selected my first post as the "Best answer".  I am not sure.  I am still willing to try to troubleshoot the issue with you.

The options you should have in Start - Programs - Photo Explosion are the following:

Photo Explosion Album
Photo Explosion Image Editor
Photo Explosion Project Studio
Photo Explosion User Manual

If you have all of the above, you should have the main program installed correctly.  You may also have a "Memories On TV" option in that folder, depending on the installation.  If you are missing any of those 4 options, then there may be a problem with the program's installation.  In that case, you may need a replacement disc.

Assuming that the program is installed properly, if the MSCONFIG did not resolve the issue, the next thing I would test would be running the program while the computer is booted into Safe Mode.  If you are not familiar with booting into Safe Mode, please let me know.

Also, I would like to clear up one point.  Is the problem at this time the same initial issue where you can open the program but it crashes on exit?  Or has the problem switched to crashing on opening the program?

I do not know how to run the program in boot mode.  The problem has not changed, it will open program explosion album. but it crashes on exit.

Hughey,

Thank you for the requested information.  If you have all those options there, I do not think the problem is an incomplete installation.

At this point, we should try booting the computer into Safe Mode.  You can do this on Vista by performing the following steps:

1) Restart your computer.
2) You should see the start screen that shows details about the computer's hardware.  When you see this, start gently tapping on the F8 key repeatedly.
3) At the Windows Vista Advanced Boot Options, select the Safe Mode option and press the Enter key.
4) If you are prompted to log in, do so.

The timing on when to start tapping the F8 key may be a bit tricky.  You may need to restart a couple of times before you get the boot menu mentioned on step 3.  So, if you do not see that menu and it loads into Vista normally, simply restart the computer and restart the process.

When you boot into Safe Mode, you should see the words "Safe Mode" in each corner of the screen.  It will probably take longer than normal to get to the Desktop.  This is a special mode that is typically slower than normal mode.

Once you have booted into Safe Mode, please check to see if you are experiencing the same crashing issue when exiting Photo Explosion Album.

Robby E. says:

Hughey,

If it is still crashing on exit in Safe Mode, then I believe the issue lies with something within Windows itself.  As to what that is precisely, I am not sure.

When you are doing the testing, are you opening the same project each time?  Have you ever just launched it and closed it without opening an album?  If not, can you test that real quick to verify it is still crashing at that point?

Also, in the error message you receive, you typically have an option to view the details of the error message.  Can you look at that and see if there is anything referencing a "ModName"?  If there is, what is the ModName it is showing?

I tried both ways and still  crashed.  It does not provide a  mod name.  I am going to uninstall and send it in for a refund.  Thanks for your effort...
