I need from time to time a tool to create or edit icons (*.ico files), as well as converting icons to/from other image formats (typically PNG with alpha-channel).
What tool should I use?

It is a good tool for icon creation, extraction and editing. It works with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Macintosh icons supporting transparency. This software exists in several languages: french, english, Deutsch... and there is a portable edition!
