Unable to print checks from QuickBooks Pro 2012 using CheckSoft's CheckDesigner

Unable to print checks from QuickBooks Pro 2012 using CheckSoft's CheckDesigner Home and Business (latest version, bought 1 month ago) v11.  I have both software installed on a pc running Windows 7 Pro 32bit.  When I attempt to get the latest update from CheckDesigner it says that the latest version is already installed.  Where can I get a fix, update, or workaround for this issue.  Thanks for any help.

Hello Amelia,

At this time we do not have a version of Check Soft that will work with Quick Books 2012. We are due to release our updated version very shortly. If you just purchased Check Soft 2011 a month ago hold onto your receipt and when Check Soft 2012 is released we will ship a copy to you.

Is there an update to this thread?  I was using my CheckSoft printing software with no issues on QB2011 Premier, but have now upgraded to the QB2012 Premier, and am up a river without a paddle for getting my vendors paid.

The only thing I can find on www.avanquest.com is Checksoft Home & Business (which at the bottom of the page says "Version 11").  It makes no mention of being the 2012 version.

Additionally, no indication is made of what programs you software will work with, other than "Checksoft Home & Business Works with Current and Earlier Versions of:

QuickBooks® Basic & Pro

QuickBooks® Online Edition

QuickBooks® Enterprise Solutions"

I have Quickbooks Premier 2012, which is not listed...  will your software work with that?

Can you please provide me with a DIRECT link to where I can buy the correct version of the software, that will work with Quickbooks PREMIER 2012?

I have to tell you, working with avanquest / softcity has been one of THE MOST frustrating experiences I have ever had.  Your websites are lacking in ease of navigation / locating the product you are looking for, your customer service is less than stellar, and getting what I need has gone from being a simple search to an over 2 day process.  In all actuality, I should probably look for a different solution.

I just purchased the CheckSoft bundle, from my local OfficeMax.  I am using Quicken Deluxe 2012.  However upon installing the CheckSoft bundle and attempting to print to it with Quicken, I am prompted with an error message that states Check Designer is not compatible with my version of Quicken and that I should I update my Check Designer software.  Upon trying to update, I am prompted with a message that states that I have current software and no update is available.

The inner flap of the CheckSoft package says "Guaranteed to work with your Quicken, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Money financial software" The packaging makes no other reference to compatibility or incompatibility with specific versions of Quicken except to say that it "...works with current and earlier versions" of Quicken, and "...check with Avanquest for the latest software updates."  The packaging makes no other definition of what is considered "current and earlier versions" of Quicken.

Without a definition of what versions of Quicken are "current" on your packaging or any disclaimer to your "Guaranteed to work..." statement, I believe legally there may be grounds here for false advertising.  Do I and the other users who are having this printing incompatibility with our current versions of Quicken need to seek legal advice or will there soon be an update for the version 11 of your software?

I just made printouts of their web site which does currently indicate version 11, the same version that is currently not working.

Neither the website printout as of today nor the original packaging indicate anything more specific about compatibility with Quicken except "current and earlier versions."  The original post of this thread, dated November 29, shows our version of Quicken has been current for at least a month.  Then throw in that clearly printed "Guarantee" on the original packaging and; Kyle, I'm no lawyer, but I think there's our case for false advertisement, and maybe even damages as you are obviously trying to run a business.

I'm glad you are fixing the version number listed on the web, but I also suggest you start printing on the packaging and on the web site exactly what version numbers of Quicken your software is compatible with and remove or amend that "Guaranteed to work with your Quicken..." phrase from your product packaging since it obviously doesn't work unless you have the correct version of Quicken.  I'm fed up with this process and just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau about the above mentioned false guarantee due to lack of specifics.  Now how the hell do I contact somebody to either ship me a new copy that works, free of charge since I just purchased the origional a few days ago, or get a refund?

I have Quick Book Pro 2012, and Checksoft Home and Business Version 12, and I still get the message, " You either are using an unsupported check style, have selected unsupported check-printing settings, or have entered a zero amount for a check. Please choose a supported check style, use supported check-printing settings, and print checks with non-zero amounts." Reading here, it seems as if you have had this problem for years, yet your level 2 phone staff is blaming Intuit. Is there a fix that will allow me to use the software as it was designed for?

Hello Mike,

Unfortunately Intuit still has not come up with a fix to correct this error. They have made a patch to fix their 2010 version but they have not released a patch to fix the PDF issues they are having with Quicken/Quick Books 2011 and 2012 which is the cause of this error popping up in our program.

Jason, I tried calling your customer service as well as chatting with them the day of my first post on this forum.  None of them knew anything about getting me a working version or that version 12 of your software even exists.  Customer service...yeah right...  Besides, after reading your last post, I think it's best none of them knew anything about your version 12 anyway:

"Unfortunately Intuit still has not come up with a fix to correct this error. They have made a patch to fix their 2010 version but they have not released a patch to fix the PDF issues they are having with Quicken/Quick Books 2011 and 2012 which is the cause of this error popping up in our program."

If printing with Quicken has been an issue with their software since Quicken 2011 and your people are aware that this is still an ongoing problem, why are you still telling people to buy the latest version of your software or even get a free copy from customer service when you know it isn't going to work?

You people are a joke, not only is your website and packaging misleading, but so is your tech support.

I suggest that anybody looking to use this software as a solution to print checks from Quicken/QuickBooks should find another solution or suck it up and buy the Quicken checks from your bank, especially if you upgrade your Quicken annually.  Loosing your ability to print and waiting for a fix from these people every time Quicken releases a new version isn't worth the trouble.

Donovan,

I can tell you that we have tried to come up with a resolution for this error. Again it is not an error that is caused by anything in our program. Nor is it an error that we can come up with a fix on our end for. I can promise you that we have spent countless hours with the developers and program writers trying to resolve this issue.

This error is being caused by a an issue with one of the PDF drivers in Intuits platform. Quicken/ Quick Books is passing corrupt or null information to our program that is causing this error to come up. Thats why this error only occurs when Quicken/ Quick Books is trying to print to our program.

Considering how many copies of Check Soft that have been sold over the years, only a small percent of customers are getting this error. Less then 1%. So this is not an issue that affects all Check Soft and Intuit customers.

As I stated before, we have spent many man hours looking for a resolution for this. We have the technical background and expertise to know what we are doing and what is causing the issue.

If you have any insight or ideas as to what is causing this error to come up, I will be more than happy to pass that information along to our developers, as at this time we have provided all of the information we can about correcting the problem from our end.

I just bought CheckSoft Premier v11 today, created the accounts and check design, then found out it was not compatible with Quickbooks Premier 2012.  I cannot justify spending another $70 to get an update to a program I bought today so it will work with the software it said it was guaranteed to work with.  I had planned the weekend to print the 80+ checks I needed to get caught up with since replacing our old accounting computer (which used Quickbooks 2012 and VersaCheck 2003 without problems).  I am currently without the ability to print checks at all.  What do I have to do to resolve this?

I had the same experience.  I upgraded to Quickbooks 2012 and bought Check Soft 12 home and business after doing some research.  Turns out Quickbooks 2012 will not output to CheckSoft.  Advanquest touts that these products are compatible when they are not.  I am sick of being ripped off by cheap software developers who do not thoroughly test their stuff before releasing to the public.  Everything they release is a Beta without advising the public so.  They know that most people will just take the financial hit rather than wasting the time trying to contact some one with Advanquest that has the authority to refund their money.  That is the way they make their money.  It is criminal but "buyer beware".

Yes Check Soft 2012 is compatible with Quick Books 2012. We have sold Tens of thousands of copies of Check Soft and out of that there is less then 1% of our customers that are experiencing an issue that is being caused by the PDF driver in Quick Books/ Quicken.

Finally I got someone from the checksoft tech support to help me. This person knew exactly how to fix it the other tech support people kept running me around the the internet looking for  fix. What I was told to do was uninstall check soft then get the Quick Books 2012 PDF Updater.

First make sure you are running QB2012 with this version Release 6 R6

http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/INF16821

Now the QB 2012 has  release 9 R9

http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/Articles/INF12897

then you will need to update the PDF for quick book to understand the Check Soft checks.

Hope fully this will help someone I am not sure if I will update to Ver 9 R9 Things are working now. We are just a testing ground for these companies. they use us to fix their screw ups all of them not just avantaquest!!
