Redmond and OpenSource

OpenSource Solution 2010 took place in Paris last week.

It's not a great surprise to see Microsoft in such event, then have been there for the past 7 years.

Anyway Microsoft seems to focus a bit more on OpenSource technology and it's a pretty good news.

Linux and Unix users community has grow a lot since 2000, and Microsoft is giving some tools to get a working mixed environment, good news for IT people.

There is a lot of effort made by Microsoft, i can think of XMPP:

XMPP is the open source standard for Instant Messaging (Jabber), and now Microsoft OCS support a XMPP gateway, OCS(Office Communication Server) use its native SIP support by default but you are now able to connect a XMPP solution to OCS.

You also probably heard about LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL and PHP)?

Now you may hear about WAMP (Windows/../.../....)

I'm please to see Microsoft taking care of the OpenSource world, maybe one day we will be able to access some hidden configuration and choose exactly what we want to install.

Only for those efforts i have to thank them!

Pierre VEBER says:

Great news, indeed they seem to have changed their approach since their partnership with Novell, aiming at a better interoperability between Linux and Windows; which is a win-win move!

I'm working in IT for almost 10 years now.

Very interested in Open Source technology, I'm still trying to improve my skills and discover new project i can work on.

To be short I'm an ITcoholic!
