Ubuntu / Windows – DUAL BOOT

To have Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows on the same PC using Dual Boot. Too easy…

Here’s how to do it:

  1. First install Windows as usual. It is better to leave a blank partition to install Ubuntu. But if you’re already running Windows, you can shrink your partition to create space for Linux installation.
  2. The next step is to install Ubuntu.
  3. Insert the Ubuntu DVD and boot on it.
  4. Follow the installation steps and you’re done.

Ubuntu will automatically detect your Windows installation. It will create a menu that allow you to choose from Ubuntu start-up or Windows.

Thanks for this quick HowTo. My boyfriend is more a Linux user and I'm more a Windows user. I'm not so use with computer, so learning Windows is way enough for me right now.

Using this HowTo I can now continu using my Windows and he can still use his Linux.

Interesting, two OS's on the same computer.  I have often wondered about this concept and, in the past, asked friend if it were possible.  Back in the early 80's I had a model 4 from Tandy and wanted to run all my model 3 software.  Some would run but not some of my favorites.  I am glad to see inovations have finally caught up to my wants.

Thanks,

JB
