TRUE LIES - or When Windows 8 details get revealed

Here we are...

We just get some time to admire Windows 7 performances (vs. Vista) and we are seeing its little brother pointing at the horizon.

The week a Microsoft Confidential Presentation of the future OS (Windows 8) has been diffused into the wild... More details after the break!

Ok, I'm back now so let see what we can find into this mysterious presentation, after all it's a good way for Microsoft to test developers, partners and users enthusiasm for this new version.

  • Inspirations

Microsoft is clearly looking at Apple's factors of success, they found out that the most important one is "It just works"... I would ironically say... Wouawww what a big find when it seems obvious for most of us but we also have to admit that Microsoft is not Apple (Apple will control everything from hardware to OS and Apps so it's easier to avoid bad user habits and manipulation)

  • Windows 8 Roadmap

It seems that Microsoft has already a clear vision of what will be Windows 8 (maybe it will change after this article was published...),they also have a plan for releases and features to include on.image

  • Windows 8 Application Market

Here again Windows is learning from its competitors, they try to renew with developers and partners by offering a new embedded distribution channel within Windows 8 OS.

The good is that in case you had to reset your system you will be able to restore all application you get via the market in a single operation.

  • Windows 8 know who you are

Most of U.I. (User Interface) evolutions compared with Vista and 7 are mainly focusing a Goal, make you life easier by auto-powering your PC when you are around, opening the websites you are usually looking for, connect you to the cloud and so on...

Facial recognition to open your session

From what I know the old "login/password" is not dead at all as for me the facial recognition has just started its way on people habits (maybe accelerated by Augmented Reality apps)

Fast startup

It's a mix of Logoff and Hibernate states in actual OS and will allow you a faster startup (looks like a normal boot but faster)image

Windows reset

Just remember how frustrating is the error message you get when it prompts you to re-install window (because of a missing/corrupted system files or unknown error), now you can put your hammer down and look more closely at this feature, it will allow you to reset your system (kind of "factory reset" you found on your phone) as said above it will also allow you to re-install in a single action all applications you get on Windows application market/store.image

  • Form factors targets

Seems that Microsoft is waking up and decide to not let its market share melt at least for PCs and Netbooks as for Tablets/Slates its another deal (Apple iPad and Android tablets are already in the place and it's more likely a challenge for Microsoft to enter into the slates' game)

That's all folks (For now)

It seems like just yesterday I was enjoying Windows 7 for the first time.  What I really want to know is... Who will be there spokeslady?

I believe my bio reads something to the affect of My life is shorter due to Microsoft!  Oh the tales I could tell........ the commercials with MAC v Microsoft are classic and so true.  Just today I was cursing installing Office 2010 on two computers and dealt with crashing, puttering, and the expected mayhem............as I worked on video tutorials on the new and fabulous features of 2010..........since they give little more than 2 minute highlight footage like a trailer to a movie that won't be showing for another 9 months.

Thumbs up from me!

Eileen Brown says:

So we are much closer now than we were seven months ago.  Wondering what looks different now?

Facial recognition could be the wave of the future for keeping stolen laptops information (therein) safe from intruders. Some folks would truly like this and some of course, will poo-poo this type of app., which is to be expected.  Not everyone will be satisfied.  But then, are they ever?
