PowerDesk Download Links

If you are having trouble downloading the PowerDesk update because your IT Administrator has the world locked down you can download the update from here:

PowerDesk 8 Update Patch

If the patch does not install and you want the full product (note it still requires you to have your serial number) you can download the full product here:

PowerDesk 8 Full Product

I'd like to reinstall PDPro8 without uninstalling PDPro7. I had a heck of a time and spent several hours uninstalling PDPro8 and reinstalling PDPro7. I did this a couple of times. I never got a refund so I still have the PDPro8 I purchased when it came out.

Your PD Download link shows a download for PD8. Which version is it?

Thanks.

I downloaded both files. I am going to try first with the patch. If that works then I'm all set. If that doesn't work, then I'll uninstall PowerDesk again and will install the full version. I just hope that with all the uninstalling and reinstalling I've had to do to get the patches to work Avanquest will not start demanding a new serial # because I've reinstalled too many times.

Since this morning (when I posted the message below) I downloaded and installed version 8.4.1.4. It seems faster and more stable (I haven't seen a not responding message). Hopefully the LiveUpdate problem (below) will be a thing of the past.

Every so often I am prompted to download/install an update to PowerDesk 8 Pro. When I agree and download the update and then begin installing it the following occurs: "LiveUpdate Intercepted an error. Error Number: 0x5. Description: Invalid Registry Key."

How do I fix the invalid registry key error (message) and how do I get LiveUpdate to NOT prompt me for an update when I already have the current version?

What's the fix? Thanx, Mike

PS I am running ver 8.2.1.9 and the update is to a later version.

Hi Mike...  I recommend version 8.4.1.4 from your current version, which is the one I had with the problem. I really can't test the update problem since there are no updates so far. Although some others seemingly had concerns with 8.4.1.4 things have been smooth sailing for me. My version 8 registration number from 8.2.1.9 worked fine after the old uninstall and new install. However, I did keep (and have) the old installation file just in case I need to reinstall it. :-)

Stephen,

I just reinstalled the serial # and it worked. However, the update updated me from 8.2.1.9 to 8.3.1.9 not 8.4.1.4. Do I need to download the entire program to get 8.4.1.4?

Thanx,

Mike

Yes, Mike, that is what I did via <http://www.avanquestusa.com/download/PowerDesk_8414_full.exe> for the P3 release with more information available here <http://tinyurl.com/6a6pkhk> via this cafe.

Hello Stephen,

Please try these steps.

Disable any fire walls  Then go to Help then about in Power Desk   and select the Change Serial number tab, enter in your serial number then ok. Wait for the message that your serial number registered ok. Close Power Desk   then re open then try running

I tried this 8414 and it said my SN is no good and closes up.  So I had to remove it.  Too bad, I cannot run Powerdesk!  Trying tech help is worthless, as well.

My preferred build is 8.4.1.12 which I have been successfully running for some time now. Perhaps the latest build is not necessarily the best build; for example, many folks skipped Windows Vista instead going from WinXP to Win7.

Just a few minutes ago I received notice that PowerDesk 8.5 has been released. See http://tinyurl.com/7dr82uh for more information. An upgrade price is just $15.

There is a minor typo in the above-noted post: the upgrade price is $14. However, I have a more pressing problem -- I called Sales before placing my upgrade order and was told by a representative (I have her name) that the upgrade could be used on up-to-three installations. Imagine my surprise when the second installation stopped working yesterday indicating that I had exceeded the maximum number of activations (apparently One).

I called Customer Service and that representative (I also have her name) told me that after discussing the situation with her manager (earlier promise of up-to-three activations and difficulty of uninstalling, reinstalling an earlier version and finding the serial number for that install) that s/he would email me an additional serial number for PowerDesk 8.5.

After waiting a few hours I called again and the next CS representative offer to send and did send an email with a serial number. However, she sent the original serial number which I discovered this morning when I tried to use it and was informed that it wasn't valid because it was only for one activation.

Hopefully Customer Service will send another serial number on Monday. This note is just to warn readers that an upgrade to PD 8.5 is valid for only one installation unlike (I'm told) System Suite which is good for up-to-three installs. Perhaps Avanquest could become a little more consistent in its licensing practice and Sales information.

I got for $9.  It works sometimes, still errs sometimes.  So I still use Q-DIR more, but occasionally P-Desk works.

Stephen B says:

My only issues with "not working" is that occasionally PD reports that it is "not responding" when, in fact, it is working behind the scenes so-to-speak to sort out folders and files and that fairly soon it starts working again. The other situation is when PD doesn't start when the desktop shortcut is clicked -- then it is because another instance of PD was already running and hadn't closed. My remedy is to go to Task Manager and close all the PD processes. Once that is done, then PD will start/work normally. Jordan, your $9 price is excellent. I haven't heard of Q-DIR (name reminds me a bit of Q-DOS), but I have heard of others using Total Commander; however, I've liked/used PD over the years since (I think) it was owned by Mijenix and then V-COM before Avanquest. I really miss all the great utilities from QuarterDeck.

This morning Avanquest Customer Service provided the needed serial number, so I'm a happy camper. I suspect last Friday's good intentions were waylaid by a busy day/schedule. The only odd thing is that Friday's CS rep couldn't as easily generate the new number as the one did this morning. Oh, well... :-)
