Manual Removal of PowerDesk

Manual file removal for PowerDesk

After uninstalling PowerDesk, there may be some files remaining on the system.  These are user settings and other data that is written to the system at runtime.

Since the installer isn't aware of these files, this document is a listing of the various locations where these files will exist.  They can be manually deleted so PowerDesk can be reinstalled from the beginning.

Please note that this list is based on a default installation.  If you installed PowerDesk to a path other than c:\Program Files\Avanquest\PowerDesk, please adjust these instructions accordingly.

Delete the files in the following folders:

  • C:\Program Files\Avanquest\PowerDesk (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Avanquest\PowerDesk on 64-bit systems)

  • C:\ProgramData\Avanquest\PowerDesk (note that ProgramData is hidden by default)

  • C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Avanquest\Powerdesk (note that AppData is hidden by default)

Also in the Registry (by running RegEdit), delete the following key:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Avanquest\PowerDesk

It will be necessary to reboot the system after this is complete, in order to release any processes that may still be running.

After this is complete, you will be able to reinstall PowerDesk.

Thank you for posting this information. I used it to successfully remove version 8 before reinstalling version 7.

Note that the "C:\ProgramData\" folder is not present on WindowsXP systems.
