Fix-it 12 problems

OK....this is just not working. I have 3 different windows computers (windows 7, XP Pro and XP Home) and now they have all stopped do to this patch that was put out by Avanquest. Have tried Multiple reinstalls according to all the different suggestions listed on this site and nothing allows the threat updates...in fact now I have no file so it cant even protect the computers!  I still have 610 days on the license because I bought the addtional time. Never had a problem with Fix-It before, but this is TERRIBLE. Now the company even puts out a 12.5 version with a cost for it....what a joke! They need to send this out to all legal owners of the program for FREE.

Any help sure would be nice!

Thanks in advance.

Mike,

I followed those directions exactly as they stated and this still does not work on any of the 3 computers. Will you please send me a link for a totally updated program instead of the patches.

Thank you.

Kevin Schaffer says:

Two different messages come up depending how you access the threat update.

One is from the one click and it gives the message "Threat Definiton Files are out of date. You need to be connected to the Internet to download the latest pattern files. Please verify your interent connection and try again.

Second is when u use the Threat Definition Update under the Help menu. This gives the message "ATTENTION: The threat definiton update process has failed. Please try again. If you need further assistance, please contact support.

Well I am connected to the internet since I am on this site leaving email  What the heck is going on here.

Mike Stelmach says:

Hello Kevin,

There are four usual causes for this error.

• Firewall blocking the program from reaching the server

• Another security program blocking the connection

• Poor connection corrupting the download

• Corrupted DNS settings

Tip: to correct DNS problems, open a command prompt and type the following command minus the

quotes “ ipconfig/flushdns” and hit enter

Lets make sure that a corrupted download isn’t left in the Downloads folder

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avanquest\AntiMalware\Downloads clear all files in this folder

Then clear the temporary files “ click start then run type %temp% and clear as many of those files as

you can. Then open Update check on the home page and manually check for updates.

Note: This can also be caused by the service not stopping properly during the update not allowing the

definitions to be over written. Restarting the computer should help in this situation.

Exactly what does ...Then open Update check on the home page and manually check for updates? I have also noticed that website for the Fix-it antivirus file is www.v-com.com AND this will not connect. I have even turned off all the firewalls and uninstalled any other program that would prevent this from connecting and still nothing. I uninstall Fix-it AGAIN and ran the AQCleanup tool and went thru the rest of your suggestions and still does not work. After I reinstalled the program I still couldnt d/l the threat file, however it does connect to the program update immediately and tells me that the program is up to date.

PLEASE do this is bad and I would like the 12.5 version sent to me at no charge.

Things were working just fine before this patch....1 computer still shows a threat file from 6/26/12 because I didn't try to update that one after the porblems with the other computers.

Thank you

Hello Kevin,

If you have run program update and it states you are up to date, then you have the latest version. Version 12.5 is the same version you have now. Marketing just called it version 12.5 however the actual version number will not be 12.5 as listed in about.

When you go to the security tab then select Threat Definitions Update, what is the response?

Mike,

This is the message that comes up after trying to update from the Security Tab

"ATTENTION: The threat definiton update process has failed. Please try again. If you need further assistance, please contact support.

Not Sure how they can Market a product that the version numbers don't match up.

Let me start over from the very first version of 12.0 and see how things go from there. Can you please give me a d/l site for this ?

Thanks.

Charles Osborne says:

I'm installing System Suite 12 from CD I got last week. The PC is WinXP Pro SP3, 3.4GHz Gateway BTX desktop PC with multiple TB's of HDDs and 4GB of ram.

I uninstalled SysSuite 11 which was working perfectly. I had updated it today and run a scan just before upgrading.

The first sign of trouble was an error message from SS Install Shield Wizard stating that "the installation of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package (x86) appears to have failed. Do you want to continue with the installation? Yes/No". I said yes and the installation ran to completion. But...

When it asks for the serial number I entered the one of CD envelope and double checked it as correct yet I got the following message. It causes an error message: "The serial number you entered is either empty or invalid. This will cause a trial version of the application to be installed. Do you want to continue with the installation of the trial version? Yes/No" I said yes and it continued.

Next error : Sunbelt Update Installer Task: The threat definition update settings were not installed." I assume that would have been the start of other errors in this string of postings if the program hadn't blue screened.

Blue Screen of death. (First one of these I've seen in several years on any of our seven PCs.) Message: "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ...

I Restart PC. Things are fine till the System Suite popup shows that System Suite is loading. Then Blue Screen again. Won't even reboot with Cntrl/alt/del . Had to hard reboot by holding power button down. That too is very unusual.

Reboot. catch process with task manager and close MXTask2.exe so that System Suite wouldn't automatically continue and blue screen things again. Managed to get to delete / add programs in System Tools and uninstall System Suite 12.

Really, I've got better things to do than deal with this kind of amateurish software. I agree with some of the other posters, I want a refund. Version 12 is crap. Its already cost me more time than the cost of the software is worth.  I'm sure not trying it on any of the other PCs.

I also cut and pasted my System Suite 12 upgrade crash and burn via CD story to support. Got a nice email that they would respond within 2 days. A week later. Still nothing.

Save your money folks. They put out new version notices just to get sales, not because they actually have a working new version to sell. If they can't ship a CD that works, what chance do you have trying to download it all piecemeal via the Internet.

I bought the Driver updater last year and when it scans my hard drive for programs it just says "all are up to date". BS. Some of the programs I use regularly are years old. No way there wouldn't be updates unless the program actually does nothing but remove money from your wallet.

It took hours of installing/uninstalling/reinstalling just to get 12 running and updated to 14 on my PC.

On my laptop at work I have gone through this process again many times (and yes I used the AQcleanup tool) and it only patches to 12 and when I try to download the threat definitions the program crashes.

I have been using Fix it since version 2 and I've never seen a piece of garbage like this.
