Despite popular belief that rampant piracy is killing the movie industry, going to the movies is still a viable form of entertainment. Its great for dates because you don’t have to talk, its relatively cheap, and for some reason theatre snacks are better than what you get at home, over priced as it may be. However, every time I go to the movies I’m always a few minutes late or a couple hours early for each show. Well thanks to the Movies app by Flickster that should never happen again. This free iPhone/iPod Touch app uses your current location and gives you a list of theatres in your area, what’s playing there, and more importantly, at what time. So you can plan ahead to avoid any awkward situations, like watching something you weren’t planning to because you don’t feel like waiting for the start of the film you wanted to see in the first place.

At first glance you get lists sorted by popularity according to what’s opening this week, the top box office hits, and everything else still playing. You can also separate the results by Rotten Tomato or Flickster ratings, and by title. If you still can’t find what you want to see, you can do a search by title. What makes this app special is that it takes your current location and gives you a list of theatres within 1, 10, 20 kilometres away, and everywhere in between. You’re able to sort the theatres by name, and favorite any to your “My Movies” page. You can also see a lists of upcoming films coming to theatres or DVD. By logging in to Facebook through the app, you can share your ratings and reviews, and see what your friends have rated, or what they want to see. Movie goers rejoice.
