Like money, gas doesn’t grow on trees. Trees do produce oxygen, but my dad told me you can’t run a car on oxygen, you’ll just get an E on the fuel gauge. This is why I recommend using Cheap Gas! This free iPhone/iPod Touch app, shows gas prices of every gas station in your area. The prices are updated by users, so if you see a different price, you can go ahead and post the new price directly on your phone. You’ll never have to drive around and look for the best deal ever again.

At start up, the app determines your location and then gives you a list of nearby gas stations, their current prices, and more importantly, the last time that price was updated. You can search by postal code, and sort the results by closest location or by cheapest price. Each result shows the distance from your current location, the price of Regular, Plus, Premium, and Diesel, if available. You can also get directions to the nearest gas station or add your own. However, usually the prices are a couple hours old, so your prices my vary by the time you get there. If that happens you can Tweet the new price via the apps built-in Twitter application. Its fast, convenient, and just might save you some money, all for free. It beats driving around aimlessly wasting gas while looking for a deal on gas. That would be way too counter intuitive if you ask me.
