iPhone vs Android - Match 2

Now let see where Android based phone beat the Apple.

  1. Single Device versus plenty

iPhone OS is only available for one device where Android can be install on plenty.
So user can choose between device, with keyboard or not, etc...
  2. More services

Even if iPhone and the AppStore offer a variety of software, i think Android are more integrated within the phone (Gmail, Google Talk, Google Maps, Google Goggles, YouTube, Google Calendar, and Google Search)...
  3. Customization

This is where iPhone is very limited (except if you jailbreak yours, but this is not the point), by default iPhone is locked down and you have to deal with, on an Android platform almost everything customization you want can be done.
  4. Market

Once again, even if AppStore runs tons of different products, Apple is very restrictive about new software, Google allow more various software.
  5. Flash support

With this the discussion is over, i can't still understand Steve Jobs position about flash support, Android winner on this also!
Flash lite is available on Android.
  6. Multi-Task

This is also something that the iPhone lack.
Within the Android you can have a real multitasking environment and tasks can be killed easily.
Multi-tasking may be supported in the next iPhone release, but this is not yet the case, so one more point for Android.

To conclude those two articles(match1 and match2) i would say, user have the choice between a well think terminal (iPhone) and a feel free to do it yourself one, so depending on their needs and skills users can easily make their choice.

Pierre VEBER says:

I would say it's a bit like Windows and Mac OS. Some would prefer control and openness over usability (Windows, Android users), others wouldn't (Apple users).

Nacim TAMINE says:

I agree with Pierre, just want to mention the economic fact: Iphone ( just as all Mac devices) are more expansive then anything else,  and  the gain in usability does not always worth the price to pay.

Cedric Voisin says:

iPhone is a pretty expensive device.
But Apple addicts are everywhere, I am not one of them...

What we are facing now is just a trend effect, people get iPhone because if you have not, you are a geek or a 'has been'...

People don't buy iPhone because it's the best terminal ever, but much more because it's a nice device and workable without spending much time on it.

Simplicity versus Functionality

Mohamed Hamdouni says:

I would like to clarify something about point 1

iPhone is a product name and it doesn't mean that it is 1 device (maybe one casing, but in anyway it's the same device)

Currently there are 3 different Models (even if most of people call them iPhone)

- iPhone

- iPhone 3G

- iPhone 3GS

Same with sales figures when an analysts say "iPhone has been sold at 26 millions units" I would say that it's like saying "Nokia phones have been sold at 250 millions units" is this sounds the same? no

Same mistake was made about Motorola RAZR (100+ millions units with V3/V3i/V3r/V3x/V3pink/etc...) or LG Chocolate (Millions units but with different models)

You are a bit playing with words mohamed ;)
But you're right, so to correct my point one, iPhone only runs on 3 different terminal but all from Apple.

Which is not the case when speaking about Android which be run on a lot of devices, and so updates are far more difficult to maintain.
