Websites Versus Blogs

We recently wrote about some website creation tools but didn’t talk about blogs, which are what many people really want and are easy to create and maintain.

What’s the difference? A web site contains recurring information and links that are appropriate to businesses and organizations. A blog is a series of posts. These posts can be personal comments, stories, political opinions, anything you like. Each time you post, the item goes to the top of the site’s home page.

A visitor to the blog typically sees six or seven of your most recent posts on and can click to see older posts or use a built-in search function to find certain topics. Bloggers usually don’t try to sell products, website owners usually do. We do not.

The easiest blogging tool we know of is “Blogger” from Google.com. Hosting is free and all you have to do is sign up. For example, our nephew Cameron, who is spending a college year inSpain, is using it to share his traveling experiences at blogo-de-cameron.blogspot.com.
