I extensively use SoftCity's search engine to find articles, questions, software and citizens. I'm also more of a keyboard user... I tend to use the keyboard to switch between applications and I try to learn several shortcuts to use the applications effectively.
I'll share a few useful tips to make you look like a real geek when your boss is watching over your shoulder ;)
An interesting feature of Firefox is the ability to create keywords for your bookmarks. When you associate a keyword, you can simply type that keyword in the address bar, Firefox will replace it with the bookmarked URL.
Step 1: Create a bookmark (⌘D)
Goto to SoftCity Café Search with any search query. Bookmark this page (⌘D and Done)
Step 2: Associate a keyword
Open your bookmarks (↑⌘B), choose your recently created search shortcut.
You have to expand the options of the bookmark manager to view the keyword field:
![]()
Enter any keyword. That's what you'll type in the address bar. I used "cs" for Café Search.
You can already use this keyword to access the search easily, but it would be more useful to be able to specify a search term, right?
Step 3: Modify the search query
Now where you see the initial query that was provided to the search engine (in this example "marc-antoine"), replace this string by "%s" as shown in this image:![]()
Close the bookmark manager and you can now simply type "cs iphone" in the address bar (which can be accessed with ⌘L by the way) to search for iPhone articles on SoftCity.
