A super browser or nothing ?

Since Chrome has been launched, I really am fond of it : fast, easy, native bookmark sync ...

With extensions Chrome is now more than just a navigator, it became my main application, with which I check mails, check documentation, access dictionaries, maps, create documents, spreadsheets from Google Apps or Zoho (online or offline), tweet, store my passwords, chat, manage domains, etc...

Actually the question is what am I not able to do in Chrome ?

For a personal usage, I think Chrome represents more than 80% of what I need.

But if Chrome allowed me to listen and manage my music, pictures, videos, more generally files on my computer, it could become my only application for current needs.

For a professional usage, it may be harder, but for example, there are already existing online editors (phpanywhere, html wysiwyg editor). These web based application maybe be not ready for a professional usage, but are they so far from it ?

With the continuous evolution of Chrome and HTML5, one can hope that we'll see in the next months or years a great improvements on browser based interfaces. The desktop applications interfaces won't really give more.image

The next step is obviously Chrome OS, why load an OS and tons of applications when only one application can do it all !

I am not saying that applications will disappear, but probably will reincarnate as services available through this super browser. The Google apps marketplace is in this trend.(http://www.google.com/enterprise/marketplace/)

Of course I still would need another OS for specific usage such as music recording, video editing or everything that is closely dependant on hardware, but it is already a best usage to have a dedicated computer for these tasks.

So are you ready to drop all your old apps and adopt a super browser ?

I found only one missing feature. You can't see the page source without reloading the page. You can still select the entire page and "inspect element", but it's not the best way to work.

Without that, I do agree, Chrome is really great !

@patrick - right-click - view page source - works for me ... I'm on the dev channel though, maybe thats why?

@Philippe - Cant wait for Google OS :) Chrome is by far the best and quickest browser. The addition of extensions has improved it even further. Great article thankyou.

I shall now go look at the Google Apps Market :)

@Tim : The key work was : without reloading...

I can see source, but it reloads the page, and sometimes, you don t want the page to be reloaded
