The world in GigaPixels

A few days ago, the largest picture of the world has been published online: it is a view of Paris taken from the top of Saint-Sulpice church.  A high resolution picture, consisting of over 26 billion pixels, the temporary consecration of the global emulation around high-res pictures.

The authors of the photo of Paris, Arnaud Frich, Martin Loyer and the French company Kolor can feel relief, as they spent a year and a half waiting and working for a single photo. Or rather 2 346 images: there are no device which has the ability to take a billions pixels shot. The record is "just" the association of 2 346 megapixel photos taken at the same time through a motorized pan head.  In this case, 138 columns of 17 lines, or 354,159 x 75,570 pixels.

Nicolas Swiatek says:

@Marc-Antoine: For exemple, a gun and a cord dropped (maybe by a criminal...) on a Paris roof:

and a turtle: http://www.paris-26-gigapixels.com/index-fr.php?x=-31.37699484909463&y=10.87195513335613&z=1.5665261253493128
