Ted,

Which version of Hallmark Card Studio is this in reference to? Also, which version of Windows are you running this on?

Ted,

Please launch the Task Manager and check to see if you have any Process labeled "PLNRnote.exe" on the Processes tab. If not, then it seems your Reminder application failed to launch for some reason.

Ted,

That means the Reminder application is not running. This is probably the reason why you are not receiving the Reminder balloon in the system tray. By default, it is configured to run at the start up of your computer. So, I am not sure why it is not running.

Please try the following:

1) Launch the Event Planner application
2) Click on the Option button
3) Make sure the "Check for Reminders" is set to At Startup
4) Then, click OK and close the Event Planner

If the "Check for Reminders" was already set to the At Startup option, please try the following next:

1) Browse to the following location:

C:\Programs\Creative Home\Hallmark Card Studio 2012\Planner

2) Right-click on PLNRnote.exe
3) Select Send To - Desktop as Shortcut from the pop-up menu
4) Drag the newly created PLNRnote shortcut from the Desktop to the Start button
5) Then, drag it to Programs - Startup and drop it into the Startup menu. You should see the shortcut appear on the Startup menu if this was done successfully.
6) Once you confirm that the shortcut is now in the Startup menu, restart your computer
7) After your computer restarts, verify that the PLNRnote.exe is now showing up in your Processes list on the Task Manager

Ted,

Which Hallmark Card Studio 2012 do you have? Are you running the Select or Special Edition version of the program? You may want to check the Help - About for the full title of the program. If you are running Select or Special Edition, I do not believe either of them have the Event Planner Reminder as part of their installation.

This thread was VERY helpful for me.  I am using 2007.

But I have an additional question.  Why does it NOT stay in the notification area. I had the time set for 5:00 AM.  It was there but after I read the reminders, it disappeared.

I had a previous planner very similar to this and at various times through out the day it popped up.

Originally I thought I had set this up but there are TWO files in the Hallmark/Planner folder.  I used the wrong one.

What is the difference between PLNRnote.exe and PLANNERexe.  They are both exe. files.

Pat,

The Event Planner Reminder program changed starting with Hallmark Card Studio 2006. In older versions of the program, the Reminder icon would stay in the System Tray at all times whether or not there was a Reminder scheduled for that day. Starting with the 2006 version, it no longer remains visible in the tray. It is only visible when the Reminder balloon appears. After reading the Reminder, the icon will disappear from the tray until the next Reminder comes up.

The PLNRnote.exe is the Reminder application. This is the utility to lets you know when you have a Reminder scheduled for that day. The PLANNER.exe is the actual Event Planner program where you schedule your Reminders.
